Amerigo Scientific offers two types of magnetic beads including BcMag™ magnetic beads and EcoMag™ magnetic particles. BcMag™ magnetic beads are uniform, monodispersed, spherical, core-shell superparamagnetic beads which consist of a nanometer-scale superparamagnetic iron oxide core completely encapsulated by a high purity silica shell. EcoMag™ magnetic particles are irregular, silica-coated superparamagnetic particles, which can be used for purification of proteins, nucleic acids, and antibodies. Silica is an excellent separation medium for purification of target molecules due to its superior mechanical and chemical stability.

Protein A, Protein G, Protein A/G and Protein L are native and recombinant proteins of microbial origin that bind to mammalian immunoglobulin molecules. These antibody binding proteins are often used in antibody purification, immunoprecipitation (IP) and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP). Protein A and Protein G are expressed in Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus sp., respectively, and are used to purify large amounts of IgG. Protein A/G is a fusion protein that combines Protein A and Protein G, which makes it more flexible in antibody purification than Protein A or Protein G alone. Unlike protein A, protein G or protein A/G, protein L binds to kappa light chains (κ chain of the VL domain) of immunoglobulins rather than the Fc region (the heavy chain). Therefore, protein L can bind not only IgG, but also other types of Ig including IgM, IgA, IgE and IgD, as well as single chain variable fragments (scFv) and Fab fragments.

BcMag™ Protein A magnetic beads, BcMag™ Protein G magnetic beads, BcMag™ Protein A/G magnetic beads, and BcMag™ Protein L magnetic beads are 1 µm uniform superparamagnetic beads coated with high density ultrapure Protein A, Protein G, Protein A/G, and Protein L, respectively. Their binding specificities to different antibody types are different.
The BcMag™ beads can be used in cell sorting and immunoprecipitation, and for the purification of antibodies from serum samples, ascites, plasma or tissue culture supernatants.
