A thermal cycler, also known as a thermocycler, PCR machine, or DNA amplifier, is an instrument to control the temperature change of the sample automatically. Generally, a thermal cycler consists of a thermal block for placing reaction tubes or microcentrifuge tubes containing samples, a temperature sensor, a heating/cooling system, a programmed control system, and a display and operator interface. The thermal cycler utilizes electric heating and temperature sensors to accurately control the pattern of temperature change in the sample tube over time.

The thermal cycler is one of the core instruments to carry out molecular biology experiments due to its precision temperature control, flexible sample volume, fast heating/cooling rates, temperature gradient capability, high degree of automation, and ease of operation. The thermal cycler is primarily used for amplification and detection of DNA sequences by polymerase chain reaction. In addition, it can also be used for other biological experiments that require precise temperature control, such as genotyping, mutagenesis, enzyme activity analysis, and many other applications.

Amerigo Scientific offers thermal cyclers in a wide range of sizes and sample capacities to accurately maintain and regulate temperatures for temperature-sensitive reactions.
