  • Magnetic beads have been widely used in the biological field for many years, due to their advantages of easy scalability, time saving, economy, gentle separation of biological compounds using external magnetic field gradients. Magnetic beads are effective tools for the extraction and enrichment of biological molecules and they can be used in protein purification, drug delivery, diagnosis, immunoassay, DNA sequencing, and cell separation and analysis. The coating on the magnetic bead surface is one of the key factors to their applications. Common surface coating materials include silica, polysaccharides, and other synthetic polymers.

    MagneStar® Magnetic Silica Beads

Amerigo Scientific offers MagneStar® MS magnetic beads that are core-shell type microspheres with a magnetic iron oxide core and a silica shell. The hydrophilicity of the silica shell enables MagneStar® MS beads with a long-term stable suspension in an aqueous medium. Due to their relatively high ferrite content and rapid magnetic response, MagneStar® MS magnetic beads are particularly suitable for automated analytical instruments. MagneStar® MS magnetic beads are mainly used in molecular biology research including nucleic acid isolation, NGS size selection, PCR clean-up, etc. In addition, the MagneStar® MS beads can be used for the capture of specific nucleic acid sequences and other small molecule biomarkers.

MagneStar® MS magnetic beads are superparamagnetic microspheres with highly uniform size, fast magnetic response, low non-specific adsorption, and high binding capacity of biological ligands. The superparamagnetic nature enables MagneStar® MS magnetic beads to be separated by a magnet instantly, while the particles re-suspend easily when removed from the magnet. They will not retain any significant magnetism after repeated exposure to strong magnetic field.
