  • Luminol (5-amino-2, 3-dihydro-1, 4-phthalazine dione) produces chemiluminescence at a wavelength of 425 nm through the action of chemical or biological catalysts in the presence of a strong oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The oxidizing peroxide donates oxygen for the reaction and converts luminol to the luminescent product aminophthalate. Peroxidases are widely used as catalysts in luminol chemiluminescence because of their excellent catalytic activity. Luminol chemiluminescence has been widely used in a variety of analytical methods such as the immunoassay of biological molecules and the analysis of trace metals and free radicals due to its high selectivity and sensitivity.

    WESTAR ECL Western Blot Substrates

    Enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL) is a biological detection technology based on the reaction of a chemiluminescent substrate (such as luminol and acridan) with an oxidizing agent. The ECL western blot substrate has the ability to produce an optimal signal to visualize horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-labeled proteins with a clear background. The addition of an electron transfer medium to the buffer can turn the flash signal into a glow and greatly improve the signal strength and duration of the reaction. In addition, the signal output intensity can be further increased by adding a suitable acylation catalyst. Amerigo Scientific offers WESTAR and WESTAR-ONE non-isotopic chemiluminescence substrates which are designed for the detection of immobilized proteins and immobilized nucleic acids conjugated with HRP.

    Two-component ECL Substrates

    WESTAR ECL Western Blot Substrates are two-component chemiluminescent substrates for western blotting. These substrates with different levels of sensitivity allow for a range of detection from picogram to femtogram.
