  • Ion exchange resins are widely used in water treatment due to their special advantages of easy implementation, low cost, reversible regeneration, and stability. In industrial water treatment, ion exchange resins are commonly applied in separation, purification and decontamination processes for water softening, and removal of alkalinity ions, minerals, and organic matter from water. In most applications, ion exchange resins can be regenerated to restore their ion-exchange capacity, which is achieved by displacing the exchanged ions with a concentrated acidic or alkaline regeneration solution. Therefore, ion exchange resins can provide consistent results over a long service life.

Amerigo Scientific offers a wide range of ion exchange resins for industrial water treatment.

    Cation Exchange Resins

    Strong Acid Cation Exchange Resins

Our strong acid cation exchange resins are gel type styrene-divinylbenzene (ST-DVB) copolymer microspheres. These products have excellent physical and chemical stability, can operate at any pH from 0 to 14, and are relatively stable to temperature, even at high temperatures of 100 to 120°C. Our strong acid cation exchange resins can be used for water treatment such as water softening and deionization.

    Weak Acid Cation Exchange Resins

Amerigo Scientific offers weak acid cation exchange resins for industrial water treatment that are macroporous polyacrylic resins crosslinked with DVB. These resins can be used at pH above 4 and are more easily regenerated than strong acidic cation exchange resins.

    Anion Exchange Resins

    Strong Base Anion Exchange Resins

Amerigo Scientific offers strong base anion exchange resins with functional group of quaternary ammonium, which is strongly alkaline and dissociates like NaOH and KOH. These strong base anion exchange resins can be divided into two types: type I containing trimethyl ammonium group and type II containing dimethylethanol ammonium group. Type I resins show higher alkalinity than type II resins. Compared with type I resins, type II resins are more suitable for applications requiring good rinsing properties and excellent regeneration efficiency. Our strong anion exchange resins have good physical and chemical stability and are able to exchange different anions over a wide pH range.

    Weak Base Anion Exchange Resins

Amerigo Scientific also provides macroporous weak base anion exchange resins used for demineralization, decoloration, or removal of organic acids. Weak base anion exchange resins with primary, secondary, tertiary, or mixed amine groups as functional groups exhibit different basic strengths. Compared with strong base anion exchange resins, weak base anion exchange resins are chemically more stable and more resistant to organic fouling. In addition, weak base anion exchange resins are easier to regenerate and can be efficiently regenerated with a small amount of sodium hydroxide.

    Mixed Bed Resins

Mixed bed resins, also called mixed bed ion exchange resins, consist of cation exchange and anion exchange resins. They are mainly used for polishing water to achieve high-quality demineralized water in the water purification industry or for industrial processes. Amerigo Scientific provides ready-to-use mixture of strong acid cation resins in H+ form and strong base anion resins in OH- form in precise proportions to meet the requirements of water treatment applications.
