Streptavidin is widely used for immobilizing biotinylated proteins, receptors, and DNA. These immobilized entities can be directly studied or used as part of biosensors, assays or binding studies. The high association constant between biotin and streptavidin provides a convenient method for generating a saturated sensing surface.
Polystreptavidin is a polymer developed for signal amplification. A single polystreptavidin can bind to multiple biotins and can undergo multiple detection marker reactions, thereby generating amplified signals and improving detection sensitivity. Compared with using streptavidin, the coating using polystreptavidin exhibit improved binding performance, higher chemical/thermal stability, higher adsorption capacity, and a lower tendency for non-specific binding.
Amerigo Scientific offers Polystreptavidin R, which is a chemically modified polymerized streptavidin. Polystreptavidin R is a macromolecule with excellent adsorption properties. The coating of Polystreptavidin R can be applied on solid phases for the detection and analysis of proteins, peptides, PCR fragments, haptens, and other biomolecules. Coatings made of Polystreptavidin R combine the excellent biotin binding capacity with a high chemo- and thermostability, making lateral flow test or other assays highly durable. Due to its macromolecular structure, Polystreptavidin R can simultaneously bind more biotinylated molecules than streptavidin, thereby achieving signal amplification in various applications.

Amerigo Scientific also offers tools for the functionalization of various surfaces and assay types using Polystreptavidin R. For coating certain extremely inert surfaces, such as certain plastics including polypropylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, etc., it is recommended to first apply a Precoating solution 1 in Polystreptavidin R Coating Kit for pre-coating. The additional pre-coating step can improve the outcome to ensure a high-quality coating with Polystreptavidin R.
