Background

Biological Functions of Antibodies

Antibodies have a variety of biological functions owing to their ability to bind their target antigen with high specificity. Some of the main functions of antibodies include the neutralization of infectious agents, activation of the complement system, and opsonization which enhances phagocytosis of antigens. The binding of antibodies to their corresponding Fc receptors initiates several effector functions, e.g. complement activation (CDC), antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP) and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC).in various techniques such as immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, western blotting, ELISA, etc.

Application of Functional Grade Antibodies

Functional grade antibodies are antibodies that have undergone special purification procedures to remove any contaminants such as endotoxins or other proteins that may interfere with the desired in-vivo or in-vitro experiment. They are often used for functional assays, in vivo studies, or cell culture applications since they are engineered to work effectively without causing harmful side effects such as non-specific binding, cross-reactivity, or intense immune responses. Functional antibodies can be used in the following applications:

  • Therapeutic Research
These antibodies are also often used to investigate the efficacy and potential side effects of new treatments before they move into the clinical trial stage. In addition, certain functional-grade antibodies can be used as tools in developing diagnostics and vaccines.
  • Basic Research
Functional grade antibodies are also crucial for basic research and diagnostic applications. For example, they can be used in activation studies to investigate the activation and regulation of different proteins or signaling pathways; and neutralizing or blocking studies to block the activity of its target antigen. They also can be used to monitor the levels of specific proteins in biological samples or to visualize the distribution of specific proteins in cells or tissues.
  • In Vivo Research
In addition to in vitro studies, these antibodies can also be used in in vivo research. For example, they may be used to stimulate or block immune responses in animal models, or to investigate the role of specific antigens in the progression of diseases.

Functional Grade Antibodies Available in Amerigo Scientific

At Amerigo Scientific, we offer a wide range of functional-grade antibodies that have been specially processed to remove additional components such as endotoxin and preservatives. These antibodies undergo rigorous testing to confirm their activity and purity.

Research Biosimilar Antibodies

As an alternative of original therapeutic product, the research biosimilar antibodies aims to offer cost-effective solutions for drug research studies and assay development.

In Vivo Antibodies

In vivo antibodies are manufactured and tested to ensure they will not have harmful effects when used in living organisms. They can be used in immunotherapy, oncology, infectious disease, autoimmune disorder studies, and etc.
