Full Name: West Nile Virus Envelope protein DI-DII
BACKGROUND: West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne virus that primarily affects birds but can also infect humans, horses, and other animals. It belongs to the Flavivirus genus, which also includes other viruses like Zika, Dengue, and Yellow Fever. The E protein is the major surface glycoprotein of WNV and other flaviviruses. It is responsible for mediating the attachment of the virus to host cell receptors and facilitating the fusion of the viral membrane with the host cell membrane, allowing the viral RNA to enter the host cell.
