Full Name: Junction Adhesion Molecule Like
BACKGROUND: JAML is a transmembrane protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is present on various immune cells, including neutrophils and certain T cells, as well as epithelial cells. It is crucial for cell-cell adhesion and assists in the migration of leukocytes (white blood cells) across endothelial and epithelial barriers, particularly during immune responses. By interacting with the Coxsackievirus and Adenovirus Receptor (CAR) on other cells, JAML helps facilitate these processes and influences inflammatory reactions. Additionally, JAML has been linked to cancer progression and metastasis.
