Full Name: Rabies virus Glycoprotein G
BACKGROUND: The Glycoprotein (G) of Rabies virus (RABV) is a transmembrane protein on the viral envelope. It mediates the attachment of the virus to host cell receptors (like the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor) and facilitates fusion of the viral and host cell membranes, allowing entry into neurons. It is also the primary antigen that elicits neutralizing antibodies and is the basis for rabies vaccines.
