Full Name: Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Envelope glycoprotein E2
BACKGROUND: VEEV is an alphavirus that can cause encephalitis in humans and equines, leading to severe neurological symptoms. The E2 protein is one of the two major surface glycoproteins of VEEV, the other being E1. The E2 protein is involved in receptor binding and determines the specificity of the virus for its host cells. It forms a heterodimer with E1, which is responsible for membrane fusion.
