BACKGROUND: Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family and the Metapneumovirus genus. It shares many clinical and epidemiological characteristics with RSV, making it an important pathogen in the etiology of respiratory illnesses. The fusion (F) protein of hMPV is highly conserved among hMPV subgroups, and it shares similar structural topology and approximately 30% amino acid sequence homology with the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) F protein.
