S. aureus beta-WTA

S. aureus beta-WTA

Target Overview

Full Name: Staphylococcus aureus Wall Teichoic Acid

BACKGROUND: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a Gram-positive bacterium that is known for causing a variety of infections in humans. In S. aureus, WTAs can be glycosylated with N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residues. This modification typically occurs at the C2 position of the ribitol phosphate subunits in the WTA backbone. The β-GlcNAc modification refers to the attachment of GlcNAc in a β-glycosidic linkage, which is a key determinant for the interaction of S. aureus with its environment, including host tissues and immune cells.

Synonyms: Staphylococcus aureus Wall Teichoic Acid; beta-anomeric GlcNAc form of WTA (beta-WTA)
