BACKGROUND: RSV is a member of the Paramyxoviridae family and the Pneumovirus genus. It is highly contagious and is one of the leading causes of respiratory illness in young children. Surface protein F (fusion protein) is responsible for fusion of viral and host cell membranes, as well as syncytium formation between viral particles.
