Candicidin is a fungicidal polyene antifungal agent derived from Streptomyces griseus, named for its high activity against the yeast Candida albicans.

Background
Candicidin alters membrane permeability by binding to ergosterol, a membrane sterol unique to fungi. As a result, an intracellular ion imbalance occurs leading to cell death.
