Aspyrone is a chiral dihydropyranone with nematocidal activity isolated from Aspergillus melleus by researchers at ICI in 1967. Aspyrone has antifungal and antibacterial activity and is more active than its derivatives or asperlactone. The epoxy group appears to be necessary to confer activity.
