Bcl-2 is the best characterized protein family involved in regulation of apoptotic cell death, consistingof anti-apoptotic and pro-apoptotic members. Bcl-2 is a useful marker for identifying neoplastic cellsin follicular lymphoma. Antibodies specific for the Bcl-2 protein can be used to distinguish betweenreactive and neoplastic follicular proliferation in lymph node biopsies.
