Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) is a novel receptor protein-tyrosine kinase. ALK can create afusion protein with a nuclear protein gene called nucleophosmin (NPM) via the amino terminus ofNPM and the catalytic domain of ALK. The product of this fusion protein is oncogenic.1 Studies havefound this chromosomal translocation in most anaplastic large-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, making ALK a good marker for anaplastic large cell lymphomas
