1/2 MS Modified Plant Media (10X, with Sucrose and Agar) is developed specifically for germination and seedling growth of Arabidopsis, tobacco, rape and rice. It is a modified and optimized medium on the basis of traditional Murashige & Skoog Basal Medium (Murashige, T., and Skoog, F., Physiol. Plant, 1962. 15:473-497). This product can be used for seed germination, seedling growth and germination studies. It contains about half of the nutrients of conventional MS medium. For convenience, the agar in this product is provided separately.
Murashige & Skoog Basal Medium (MS Basal Medium) is a widely used plant medium today that contains high levels of organic additives such as nitrogen sources, sugars, vitamins, and growth regulators. This medium was originally formulated to culture tabacco callus, and later was found to be very effective in culturing monocotyledons and dicotyledons. It has now been extensively used for callus initiation and growth, cell growth in suspension medium, and regeneration of roots, plantlets, and explants. In recent years, MS medium has also been used in micropropagation of ornamental plants, vegetables and fruit trees. MS medium is characterized by high inorganic salt and ion concentrations, stable ion balance, high nitrate content, appropriate amount and ratio of nutrients, and a relatively wide range of applications to meet the nutritional and physiological needs of plant cells. MS medium can also be used for suspension culture and transformation of tobacco (Nicotiana plumbaginifolia).
This product is able to meet the nutritional needs of plant cells and is particularly suitable for seed germination and seedling growth, usually without the need of adding additional organic ingredients such as amino acids, casein hydrolysate, yeast extract and coconut milk.
This product contains appropriate amounts of macro and trace elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iodine, boron, sulfur, zinc, cobalt, copper, molybdenum, iron and sucrose, and does not contain inositol, niacin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine, glycine and other substances that can be added as needed.
