The Viral Protease Inhibitor Screening Assay Kit is based on green fluorescent protein (GFP)-derived protein that fluoresces only after the inhibitor works, and the fluorescence intensity increases with the action of the inhibitor. This experimentally optimized report assay allows for antiviral drug screening in human cell culture at biosafety level 1 (BSL1). Using our kits in drug development, the rapid screening of novel antivirals can be achieved.

Background
Viruses are widely present in the natural environment, posing a threat to human health. Viral proteases play a critical role in the life cycle of many viruses by affecting the cleavage of viral polyprotein precursors to yield functional products or by catalyzing the processing of the structural proteins necessary for the assembly and morphogenesis of virus particles. Therefore, the development of protease inhibitors (PIs) is one of the most significant strategy against viruses.
