Radicinol is a mycotoxin isolated from Curvularia lunata (syn. Cochliobolus lunata) by researchers at Nagoya University, Japan in 1977. Subsequently, Radicinol has been found as a secondary metabolite in a diverse range of plant pathogenic fungi. Radicinol is herbicidal and is the likely phytotoxic component in the pathogenicity of the fungus. Radicinol induces apoptosis via modulation of p53 and BCL-2, increasing caspase-3 expression in cancer cells.
