Niobium nitride is a hard, refractory compound with a high melting point and superconducting properties. It has a golden appearance and exhibits good electrical conductivity. NbN thin films deposited by sputtering are used in superconducting electronics, such as Josephson junctions and single-photon detectors, due to their high critical temperature and fast response times.
