      • Overview
        • m-dPEG®12-thiol, PN 10794, is a monodisperse PEGylation reagent used to modify silver or gold nanoparticle surfaces and sulfhydryl-containing molecules. A non-reactive methyl group caps one end of the dPEG® chain, while a free thiol terminates the opposite end. The terminal thiol group forms disulfide bonds with other thiols, dative bonds with gold and silver, and thioether bonds with maleimides and bromoacetates.

          PEGylation with dPEG® products
PEGylation increases water solubility and expands the hydrodynamic volume of conjugates. Also, PEGylation reduces immunogenicity, renal clearance, and non-specific interactions arising from hydrophobic regions on surfaces and biomolecules. Surface PEGylation prevents proteins and other biomolecules from binding non-specifically with the surface.

Traditional PEGylation reagents are disperse polymers. Such products consist of a variety of PEG chain lengths and molecular weights. When reacted with biomolecules, this complex mixture of PEG products leads to a muddled combination of conjugates that are difficult and time-consuming to analyze.

In contrast, our dPEG® products are monodisperse PEG products. Because these products are synthesized from high purity starting materials, they have no dispersity (Ð = 1). Since there is a single PEG product, the conjugates formed are predictable and relatively straightforward to analyze.
