Lanthanum Fluoride (LaF3) is used in optical coatings, phosphors, and as a dopant in fluoride glasses for fiber optics. It has high transparency in the UV region and low phonon energy. Thin films of LaF3 can be deposited using sputtering, enhancing the optical properties of components in photonic and optoelectronic devices.
