L-Arabinose is the ubiquitous naturally occurring isomer and a constituent of plant polysaccharides which constituent of many biopolymers that make up plant cell walls. An inducible arabinose operon which presents in most bacteria genomes and codes for a series of enzymes and transporters that facilitates using L-arabinose as the sole carbon source in microbial culture in the absence of glucose.
