Isovaleryl coenzyme A (Isovaleryl-CoA) is an intermediate in the catabolism of leucine, synthesized from β-methylbutyric acid by acyl-CoA synthetase. It is converted to methylcrotonyl-CoA by isovaleryl-CoA dehydrogenase in the leucine catabolism pathway and by isovaleryl-CoA oxidase in the fatty acid β-oxidation pathway (Kelley et al., 2001; Zhang et al., 2015).
