Macrophage Inflammatory Protein MIP-1 beta is part of the CC subfamily of the chemokine superfamily of chemoattractant cytokines. MIP-1 beta affects the inflammatory response of blood monocytes, tissue macrophages, and T cells. MIP-1 beta also enhances the formation of granulocyte-macrophage colonies stimulated by GM-CSF or M-CSF. Human MIP-1 beta is composed of 69 amino acid residues with one possible N-linked glycosylation sites, and several possible O-linked sites. Human MIP-1 beta is 60% homologous with human MIP-1 beta. Human recombinant MIP-1 beta is produced in genetically engineered yeast, and purified by sequential chromatography.
