Fibroblasts are multifunctional tissue resident mesenchymal cells. Fibroblasts from different anatomical sites exhibit highly different gene expression patterns and remain faithful over time. Fibroblasts are cells that are primarily responsible for ECM generation and remodeling during wound healing. Human gingival fibroblasts are isolated from gingival tissue, and they are spindle shaped and connected to each other into a network; The cells are distributed in a flattened shape of a protruding spindle or star.
