Germanium antimony telluride, commonly known as GST, is a phase-change material with exceptional optical and electrical properties. It is widely used in rewritable optical data storage media, such as CD-RW and DVD-RW, where the reversible phase change between the amorphous and crystalline states allows for data storage and retrieval. GST also demonstrates potential for non-volatile memory applications, where the rapid and reversible phase transitions can be harnessed for information storage and processing. The tunability of the materials optical and electrical properties by composition and structure engineering makes GST a versatile platform for various optoelectronic and electronic devices.
