Fluorescent flesh-tone microspheres were developed in cooperation with Old Dominion University to develop better tools for training and verification of cleanliness and hygiene protocols in a hospital setting. These microspheres, which are smaller than what unaided human eye can discern, were specifically designed to mimic the color of the skin and blend into the surface of most skin tones, appearing invisible to the staff performing the cleaning procedures under daylight illumination. Cospheric microsphere powder can be placed in common areas or on top of mannequins and its spread later examined. After cleaning procedures are completed, the microspheres can be subjected to the ultraviolet (UV) illumination to check whether the target areas are indeed clean and whether the microspheres have spread to any other areas. Cospheric specializes in developing and manufacturing microspheres to customer's specific color requirements. We have in-house capabilities to develop and manufacture microspheres in custom color formulations for cosmetic, industrial or medical applications. Solid polyethylene microspheres can be developed to blend into background of any color. This functionality enables scientists and engineers to conduct controlled blind tests and experiments and make microspheres visible in any point in the process. Numerous applications in diagnostics, troubleshooting, process flow, medical research, biotechnology, quality control and other industries. Color can be matched as a color of monolayer of spheres or bulk color. Desired custom color microspheres can be manufactured with UV fluorescing capability. The small size and spherical shape of the particles allow the powder to spread easily on most surfaces, creating a thin layer of powder, invisible to the naked eye under daylight illumination. When illuminated with 365nm UV light or black light, the powder acquires highly visible yellow-green fluorescent color, which is clearly distinguishable from the background. In this way, flesh-tone fluorescent microspheres are used as a reliable engineered contaminant simulation and verification tool.
No solvents are used in the manufacturing process. The microspheres are highly opaque particles with maximum hiding power.
Polyethylene microspheres are hydrophobic and suspend easily in oil-based solutions. They can also be suspended in aqueous solution if coated with a surfactant prior to suspending in water. We recommend usingTween 80 or Tween 20 Surfactants. Please contact us at for specific academic pricing.
