        • Blue polyethylene microspheres are engineered to be neutrally-buoyant in an aqueous solution with a density (specific gravity) of 1.00g/cc (1.00g/cm3 or 1.00g/ml). Neutrally-buoyant polymer spheres and can be used in flow visualization studies or as a tracer particle for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Highly opaque blue polymer spheres offer maximum hiding power. The blue colorant is embedded into the polymer matrix and will not degrade or leach out into the aqueous solution over time. Other colors, sizes and grades of polyethylene spherical particles are available: Polyethylene Microspheres (Colors, Fluorescent, Phosphorescent, Barium Sulfate) Other neutrally-buoyant particles for flow visualization and PIV are available: Microspheres for Flow Visualization and PIV (1.0g/cc)

          Blue polymer spheres with specific gravity of 1.00g/cc are designed to match the density of water for optimal suspension of particles, enabling visualization and characterization of fluid flow for process modeling, optimization, and testing the capability of devices to withstand particulate matter in the fluid stream of the aqueous solution.
          It is critical that the density of polymer spheres is matched as close as possible to the density of water at the correct temperature. If there is a mismatch in density, the microspheres will either sink or float. Please reference our table forDensity of Water as a Function of Temperature .


          Polyethylene microspheres are hydrophobic and suspend easily in oil-based solutions. They can also be suspended in aqueous solution if coated with a surfactant prior to suspending in water. We recommend usingTween 80 or Tween 20 Surfactants.
