    • Overview
      • CD56 is a cell surface glycoprotein, a nerve cell adhesion molecule, and belongs to a family of closely related cell surface glycoproteins. It is expressed positive in thyroid follicular epithelium, hepatocytes, renal tubules, nerve cells, muscle fibers, stomach wall, neuroendocrine cells scattered in the stomach, bladder and NK cells. CD56 is used for the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer, and may be particularly useful in squeezed biopsies tissue, because the expression of CD56 is still positive in the squeezed area of small cell carcinoma, while are often negative in TTF-1 and MNF116. At the same time, CD56 is generally expressed negative in papillary thyroid carcinoma, usually negative in benign gastrointestinal stromal tumors, but may be expressed positive in malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In addition, CD56 is also of great significance in the research of cancer invasion, mainly expressed in neurons, astrocytes, NK cells and a small number of activated T lymphocytes.
