Background
BAY1161909 is an oral bioavailable selective inhibitor of serine / threonine monopolar spindle 1 (Mps1) kinase with potential antitumor activity. After administration, BAY1161909 binds and inhibits the activity of Mps1, leading to inactivation of spindle assembly checkpoints (SAC), accelerated mitosis, chromosomal misalignment, chromosomal mispolymerization, unstable mitotic checkpoint complexes and increased aneuploidy . This leads to the induction of cell death in cancer cells that overexpress Mps1.
