DEAE-C is a cationic resin used in ion-exchange chromatography, a type of column chromatography for the separation and purification of proteins, nucleic acids, and charged molecules. Structurally, DEAE-C contains cellulose gel matrix beads which are derivatised with Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE). Negatively charged molecules and proteins are locked onto the matrix surface, until released by increasing the salt concentration or changing the PH in the mobile phase.
