2-Deoxy-D-galactose is a hexose analog with a wide range of biological activities including inhibition of glycoproteinssynthesis by blocking glycosylation, inhibiting glycolysis and hence tumor growth as well as, inhibition of fucosylation. It also shows antiviral activity, and hepatotoxicity. Due to its abilityin interfering with the phosphate and nucleotide metabolism, 2-Deoxy-D-galactose is extensively used as trapping agents for phosphate and uridylate in mammalian cells.
