Williams E With L- Alanyl -Glutamine is a Classic Basic Medium. William's E medium is a nutrient medium designed by William and Gunn for the long-term culture of rat liver epithelial cells and other mammalian liver cells. This medium contains an advanced cell culture additive, L-alanyl-L-glutamine, which is used as a substitute for the unstable L-glutamine. Use of L-alanyl-L-glutamine also does not result in excess ammonia production, further benefitting cell growth. This medium contains a variety of amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, and other components, but does not include proteins, lipids, or growth factors so it is recommended to be used in combination with serum or serum-free additives.
