The dimeric glycoprotein thyroglobulin, synonym for TG, is a pivotal precursor in the synthesis of thyroid hormones and comprises up to 75% of the total protein mass of the thyroid gland. It often co-purifies with thyroid peroxidase in native “thyroid microsomal antigen preparations” and is also a target of autoantibodies.
