Manufactured in-house and offered as the beta isomer. It is a readily useable white, pure, crystalline form suitable for large scale syntheses or biological processes. It is often abbreviated to Ac4ManNAc, Man(OAc)4NAc, peracetylated mannosamine and tetraacetyl ManNAc.Mannosamine derivatives have become important reagents in research and development projects associated with derivatives of sialic acid. It has been shown that Ac4ManNAc is highly bioavailable and does not appear to have any disadvantages in cellular cultures.
