Neural stem cells are usually grown in the form of neurospheres suspended in serum-free or low-serum medium. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, adult multipotent progenitor cells and cord blood cells derived from the blood system need induction to differentiate into neural stem cells. The differentiation medium adds growth factors such as N2, NGF, 1% FBS and a small amount of stimulating hormones to promote cell differentiation.
