LUM Human Recombinant produced in E. Coli is a single,non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 343 amino acids (19-338a.a) andhaving a molecular mass of 30.9kDa. LUM is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Lumicanalso known as LUM belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) familywhich comprises decorin, biglycan, fibromodulin, keratocan, epiphycan, andosteoglycin. Furthermore we can see that in these bifunctional molecules, theprotein moiety binds collagen fibrils and the highly charged hydrophilicglycosaminoglycans regulateinterfibrillar spacings. Lumican is the main keratan sulfate proteoglycan of the cornea however LUM isalso distributed in interstitialcollagenous matrices throughout the body. Lumican regulates collagenfibril organization and circumferential growth, corneal transparency, epithelial cell migration and tissue repair. Among the diseases associated withLUM is posterior amorphous corneal dystrophy.
