Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a 126 amino acid cardiac prohormone synthesized in atrial myocytes and is stored in secretory granules. Circulating levels of proANP (1-98) are typically measured because of its longer half-life and because they are less sensitive to the pulsatile secretion of ANP. proANP has been investigated in oxidative stress, sepsis, cardiac hypertrophy, and heart failure risk.
