Niobium carbide is a hard, refractory compound with a high melting point and good electrical conductivity. It exhibits excellent wear resistance and chemical stability, making it suitable for high-temperature applications. NbC thin films prepared by sputtering have been investigated for their use as protective coatings, wear-resistant layers, and as electrical contacts in high-temperature electronics.
