M199 With HEPES is a Classic Basic Medium. M199 (Medium 199) is especially suitable for the culture of untransformed cells, rat pancreatic epithelial cells and mouse lens tissues, as well as for virology and vaccine production. M199 contains adenine, adenosine, hypoxanthine, thymine, and other vitamins. In addition, it has two types of equilibrium salt (Earle's salt and Hank's salt) that can be used in CO2 and non-CO2 environments, respectively. Originally used in studies of chicken embryo fibroblasts, M199 has seen wide use in the culture of various animal cells, including some non-mammalian varieties. It does not contain any protein, lipids, or growth factors, therefore, use with serum or serum-free additives is recommended.
