Isobutyryl coenzyme A (Isobutyryl-CoA) is a short-chain branched acyl-CoA that serves as the starter unit for the biosynthesis of myxalamid B and is used to study the specificity and kinetics of isobutyryl-CoA mutase (EC 5.4.99.13). The lithium salt form of isobutyryl coenzyme A enhances its stability and solubility, making it suitable for biochemical assays and research in acyl-CoA metabolism (Berdy, 2005; Stenson, 2008).
