Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide being commonly used worldwide. It is derived from phosphonic acid and glycine, and is the only herbicide that targets the 5-enolpyruvyl-3-shikimate phosphate synthase (EPSPS). Beside its application as a herbicide, it also acts as a an agrochemical and a 3-phosphoshikimate 1-carboxyvinyltransferase inhibitor.
