Bialaphos is a natural herbicide and a pro-toxin produced by certain Streptomyces species (Streptomyces hygroscopicus and Streptomyces viridochrome genes). Bialaphosis a tripeptide made of two alanine residues and one glutamic acid analog phosphinothricin. It is commonly used as a gene selector in plants.
