Gentamicin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic isolated from Micromonospora in 1963, is reported to have activity against Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive and some mycoplasmas. The bactericidal effect of gentamicin is due to inhibition of protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria.
