Enramycin acts as a MurG inhibitor involved in peptidoglycan synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria. MurG catalyzes the transglycosylation reaction in the final step of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Inhibition of this step greatly compromises cell wall integrity leading to cell lysis.
