      • Overview
        • Copper tungsten is a pseudo-alloy that combines the advantageous properties of copper and tungsten. Its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, high melting point, and good mechanical properties make it a versatile material used in various industries.
The properties of copper tungsten can be tailored by adjusting the composition. The tungsten content in the alloy affects its hardness, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity. Higher tungsten content increases hardness and wear resistance but decreases electrical and thermal conductivity. Conversely, higher copper content enhances electrical and thermal conductivity but reduces hardness.
The fabrication of copper tungsten components is possible through various processes such as machining, grinding, and EDM. Machining copper tungsten can be challenging due to its high hardness and abrasiveness. However, with appropriate tooling and techniques, precise shapes and dimensions can be achieved.
As copper and tungsten shall not really melt together, Cu-W is produced by powder metallurgy.
