Background
Codfish contains a variety of specific proteins in its body. The biological activity of these proteins changes with the length of time the fish is left after being caught. The longer the storage time, the more likely these proteins are to trigger abnormal reactions in the human body. Codfish allergy is a type of heterologous protein allergy and typically presents as sudden-onset flat skin rashes accompanied by pronounced itching, a condition known as urticaria.
